The national fruit of Jamaica; Ackee is a soft and delicious yellow-orange fruit with a delicate, slightly nutty flavour and a scrambled egg-like texture. Native to West Africa, it made its way to the Caribbean in the 18th Century and quickly became a major feature of the local cuisine.

This unique fruit is, to the surprise of many, eaten as a vegetable: most often in Jamaica's signature dish: Ackee and Saltfish, where the fruit is cooked with salted cod and a selection of herbs and spices. Enjoy!
